Volkswagen/Audi 3.0TDI Engine Oil Pressure Fix

Why was the oil pressure lowered?

The reduction of oil pressure at low engine speeds was designed to lower the energy needed to generate this pressure. This is achieved by using an oil pump with adjustable output, controlled by the engine computer. The goal was to reduce the power required to drive the oil pump, thereby improving emissions.

This solution was implemented to comply with EURO 6 emission standards. Here's how it works: the engine control computer receives data from the oil pressure sensor and then adjusts a solenoid valve to match the values specified in the map, which outlines oil pressure based on temperature and engine speed.

However, the consequences  of  low oil pressure can lead to engine and turbocharger damage.

If you own a Volkswagen or Audi 3.0 TDI produced after 2013, you might be facing a serious issue. Low oil pressure is a primary cause of engine seizure in 3.0 TDI EA888 evo engines. This problem affects all Volkswagen Touareg and Audi models such as A4, A5, A6, A7, A8, Q5, Q7, and Q8 equipped with the 3.0 TDI V6 EA897evo generation engines.

Hundreds of thousands of these vehicles produced after 2013 are impacted. It wasn't until March 2020 that the VW group adjusted the engine settings to increase oil pressure. However, in our opinion the changes that have been made are still insufficient, and the oil pressure in cars produced after 2020 still remains too low. We believe the oil pressure should be significantly higher than what VW has implemented.

The Solution

Thankfully here at Drop The Box Performance we have the solution! By using our advanced ECU Reading and Writing tools we can change the map parameters stored in your ECU to correct the low oil pressure settings.

The Procedure

Firstly we will confirm that your vehicle is effected by analysing the live data of your oil pressure against Engine speed. If your oil pressure is less than 1.5 BAR at idle your vehicle is effected!

Next we will take a read of your ECU software, make the parameter corrections and install the revised software to your vehicle.

Finally after the solution has been applied we will confirm the repair by repeating the live data observations to confirm that your oil pressure is now at the desired level.

What Does it cost?

We can provide this correction for as little as £150. This is also covered by our mobile service at no additional charge, provided you are within our working radius.

If you would like to include this correction as part of a Performance Tune booking, we will add it on for FREE!
